You’ve seen the photos and the video (hopefully you’ve seen mine!). You know you need them to competently market the properties you’ve been entrusted with, but do not want to invest the time or money to fly your own drone. So, you’ve decided you’re in the market for a drone pilot to shoot some footage for you.
You need to know hiring a drone photographer/videographer isn’t quite the same as hiring someone to shoot the same footage on the ground. In addition to the professional and technical skills, you need to make sure that your pilot is operating within the framework of state and federal law as well as licensing regulations.
Licensed drone pilots are well-versed in all aspects of local, state and federal guidelines as to when and where they can fly. They are bound to follow the law and have a license. This license has to be renewed every two years with recurrent testing, so pilots must stay abreast of any changes or modifications to the laws.
Licensed drone pilots also know and understand the airspace they’re going to operate in. With this in mind, make sure you’re hiring pilots with extensive background flying in the areas where your properties are. You may have a wide area of properties you work with, so it’s wise for you to have experienced pilots who know the specifics of wherever it is you need footage or images.
A qualified pilot takes responsibility for the safety of the public and makes that their number one priority. You may have some remote shoots where you’ll need drone footage. If you’re shooting in urban or suburban settings, now you must account for other people and property that might be adjacent to where you’re shooting. Make sure the pilots you’re working with are fully insured and have a track record of safety.
Drone footage is an important part of marketing properties today. Make sure you do your diligence and hire only qualified, licensed pilots to work with you.
