Fall is a great time in central Indiana and an even better time to visit Carmel. We all know winter is around the corner, so it is a great time to take in various activities. There are so many things to do whether you are an outdoor enthusiast like myself or enjoy more of the comforts of indoor activities.
My happy place is outside, especially on a beautiful sunny day. Almost anytime day of the week, you might find me riding my bike along the Monon Trail or any of the nearly 200 miles of trails around Carmel. Whether you are a cyclist, runner or just out walking the dog or kids, the trails are the place to be. The Monon Trail runs from North of Westfield all the way to downtown Indianapolis stretching 25 miles through Carmel. But don’t worry, if you decide to ride the entire trail, there are plenty of places to stop and grab a bite to eat for more energy, especially in Carmel. From pizza at Bazbeaux’s, a burger at Bub’s or even a local beer from Sun King Brewery, you can find just about any type of food or drink you want in Carmel along the trail.
If culture and entertainment is more your style there are an array of options. Meet Me on Main is the second Saturday of every month where businesses in the Arts and Design District stay open until 9pm. This includes live music, face painting, food and a community favorite gallery walk. There is a range of galleries to choose from in addition to the many sculptures and statues scattered throughout the Arts and Design District. Don’t forget to stop and pose with a statue for a photograph!
You can take in a play or musical at Booth Tarkington or a concert at the Center for the Performing Arts home to the Palladium concert hall as well as the Tarkington and Studio theaters. I personally have not been to a performance at the Palladium, but have heard some amazing reviews. Our daughter took classes at the Civic Youth Theater, where they offer a variety for all ages, and had a wonderful experience. We’ve also attended several musicals and the quality and talent is amazing.
The farmer’s market in Carmel is one of the best. In the summer you can find it outside on the Carter Green from May to September. In the Winter Market it is moved from the green to the Wire Factory from November to March. In December the carter green is turned into Christkindlmarkt. The Christkindlmarket is an authentic German. You will find a blend of traditional German foods and gifts along with a beautiful outdoor ice skating rink.
Carmel has so much to do, you really do need a whole year to take in all it has to offer. Now is a great time while the weather is still (relatively) warm and the leaves are turning. See you on the trail!
